Megan The Detective
When Mum had gone, I took a cup of coffee and a home-made biscuit in to Dad. I asked him if I could have a word. He was in a good mood, so he smiled, typed a couple more words, saved his document and closed it. I hoped the screen saver would come on. Dad has this screensaver which someone in his publishers did for him, to go with The Corpse Sat Up. It has this skeleton lying down, then it suddenly gets up, grins, and does a little dance. It's really cool.
He said, 'Okay, Poochie, what did you want to talk about?' Poochie was what he used to call me when I was a baby. I'm not wild about being called it now, but I didn't want to make a fuss about it, especially when he was being friendly about being interrupted, and also when I was planning to pull off a trick involving a cat.
I felt a bit bad about that but not too bad.
